Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Night!

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone is enjoying our winter vacation!  I celebrated two wonderful Christmas's.  Last week we all went to my brother's house, in Huntington Beach and ate great food and opened presents.  We got tons of presents for the kids but the grownups each pulled a name out of a hat and bought one gift.  I pulled out my neice's name and gave her a gift card to a store she loves and some really cute earrings.  I got a cool new board game that we played right away.  My brother barbequed and made a deep-fried turkey outdoors.  It was so delicious!

Today, Mr. Bain's family came to our house.  We had Mexican food and lots of yummy desserts.  We watched, The Tale of Despereaux, and laughed at lots of funny stories about when Mr. Bain was a litte boy.  I think he was on Santa's naughty list! 

I can't wait to ring in the New Year.  2010 is going to be a fantastic year and the class will be setting some serious goals when we return to school on January 4th.  Be thinking about your personal learning goals and we will be working together when we return to put those goals into action!

The Big And Hairy Rat by Samantha

Do you have a dog thats so small that you need to be careful not to step on it? I sure do. Her name is Tinker bell. I love her a lot. But in the dark, she's a ghost. When I come down-stairs, she is always sitting on the couch.....in the dark. And she's black! All she is is clear black! Scary? Yeah!! And since she's small, thats something to worry about. Now since its winter, the wind BLOWS open the door, Tinker bell runs out, and almost gets hit. So we have to keep the door closed and locked. And she looks like a big and hairy rat! Well, not big. She's bigger than a rat but LOOKS like a rat. But.......she's my favorite rat! This is Tinker bell.

Step-Up to Thanksgiving 2009 by Mrs. Bain

           What are you thankful for?  I have several things for which I am so thankful!
           First, I have an amazing family.  I love my wonderful husband and my handsome sons, Chris and Ian.  I am thankful for their senses of humor and kind hearts. Mr. Bain is always doing sweet things like bringing me coffee from Starbuck's and buying me little presents like my new necklace.  Ian and Chris do nice things for me around the house.  Chris and Ian just put new toilets in my bathrooms and new faucets too. They are always helpful with things like carrying in the groceries and taking out the trash.  All of them are funny and keep me laughing.
         Next, I am thankful for my awesome class.  I have thirty great students in my class.  They are bright and funny and very sweet.  They like learning and make me proud of how hard they work every day.  Each of my students is different but they are all great.  I have some kids who amaze me with their math skills.  I have some who are fantastic writers (I'm sure you've seen that for yourself on this blog.)  I also have some superb readers.  I like to joke and play with my class and they have fun too.  We laugh a lot, but we also work hard because we know how important learning is.
            Also, my  friends are pretty spectacular.  I am lucky to have a group of great friends.  Many of these friends are teachers, like me, who like to share ideas and stories.  We all like to laugh together and just enjoy each other's company. I meet with some of my friends for dinner and movie watching.  We like to play board games and video games.  The best game to play with friends is called, "Apples to Apples".  My friend, Austin, always try to convince us to pick his card.  
             Last, I am thankful that I have a roof over my head and good food in my belly!  I live in a simple, but cozy home with my family and my job provides money for food and clothes. I can buy groceries that I like to eat.  I can shop for the clothes that I like to wear. I have tons of shoes because I am crazy about shoes.  I appreciate how important this is because I work with kids who do not have homes but live in a shelter with other families.  The kids in the shelter have to eat whatever the people cook for them and only some of them even have beds.  At the shelter, kids and moms sleep on mats in a big room. 
             I am lucky that I have so many wonderful things to be thankful this Thanksgiving!  It is important to think about how thankful we are every day and not just on Thanksgiving.  What are some things you are grateful for? 

The Beach by Sam:)

When I went to the beach,it was so crowded.Me,my mom,aunt and uncle,went to the beach.It was a lot of fun,but 1 thing thats not fun is.......to many people!.My aunt tried to put sand all over her,because I said that,"If you lie down,I'll put sand all over your body,but not on your head"But the answer was,"No thank-you."If I were her,I'd do it.It's just for fun.Then,I went swimming!The best time of the beach is SWIMMING!!But,my uncle took over and I almost drowned!No,not really.:)He just kept holding the swimming donut.This was all about the beach!Hope you'll go to the beach,but not on a crowded day.:)

My Crazy Birthday by Samantha

My 3rd birthday was crazy.I couldn't smile at all!I would just frown and show my baby teeth.That's a picture of me and my Grandma.My smile was scary.My mom telling me to stop smiling but I liked scaring her.I wouldn't even touch my cake.I WANTED CHOCOLATE!!!!!THAT CAKE WAS VANILLA!! Who likes vanilla on a birthday?!?!I never get chocolate and I never got chocolate!!!!!!!!!!!Well,I did get a lot of presents.:)But I don't know what they were.Then my family taught me how to smile,and I did it!That was some crazy birthday,huh?

My 5th Birthday by Samantha

When I was four,I always told my dad when my birthday was because him and my grandma had a surprise for my birthday.Going to Disneyland!I kept asking and asking until September 29th.It was a lot of  fun.First,we drove to Disneyland and saw a mountain shaped like a bear.Next,we went on all kinds of different  rides.It was a lot of fun.Then,we slept in a hotel.But I went in the pool next to the hotel first.It was so much fun that we came to our room very late.Last,we went to a Cafe for breakfast.That's me on my birthday with Lelo in the picture.We went on more rides that day.Then we had to go home.I was sad but I know I'll come back someday.

Me In The Snow by Samantha

When I was 3 or 4,in Virginia,snow always came down in winter.It was a lot of fun!I remember my dog,Yuki,(You-key)pulling me on a sled.It was fun until he went nuts and started a dog sled race!He kept running,my mom kept chasing,and then,"BANG!"Yuki led me to a dead end,I crashed into a trash-can!!!Silly dog!I kept crying all the way back to the house.It was fun playing in the snow before that.But I don't think I saw any yellow-snow.What is yellow snow anyway?My snow hat was so cute.It was a blue dog.I love snow a lot!!!!!

Now Rook wants to get even with Bond, but he dies.

Mrs.Bain is an awesome teacher.First,she let's us do all sort of crafts.She has us do Halloween and Thanksgiving  crafts so far this year.Next,if we don't understand a math problem,she would go back and show us what to do.And we are able to understand math even better,but we are also far back from the other 4th grade teachers in math.Also,if we did something wrong on a test,she would let us take it back and fix it before she grades it.When I had trouble on one of our math tests,she gave it back to me to fix.Finally,Mrs.Bain is the most greatest teacher of all,that when we're good,she always says something very nice."Have I told you lately,that I love you?" is what she says,and the answer is........"Yes!A million times!"We all love Mrs.Bain so much.And that is all about her.

Hey it's me Jesus, I am going to tell you all about the awesome game called ClubPenguin.ClubPenguin entertains the players with a game of life with a penguin.First,you will usally appear in town.There is a disco nightclub in the town.You can play the DJ or have a dance off.You can get a job,have mail,have an igloo,and get puffles.They cost 800 coins.Luckily,the ClubPenguin team gives you 500 coins to start with.You can chat and make friends.I have about 29.One of them is my cousin!Membership means more!If your a member you can be in perties,plays,buy clothes,and decorate your igloo for the holidays.I'm getting one for Christmas!I hope I get it in time to decorate my igloo.If you do a good job at any play you'll probaly be nominated for the ClubPenguin Play Awards.there is a map and in the diffrent places,most of them have a game.In the Dojo,if you earn your black belt you'll become a ninja.I'm already a ninja.There is a coffe shop and pizza parlor in here.you can get delicous meals in both places.Olny in the coffe shop,if you go upstairs you'll get to the Book Room.There are wonderful books here.Clubpenguin is truly an awesome game!

My Favorite Hotel by:Brandi

My favorite hotel is Aquarious at Laughlin. They have breakfast every morning. Then you can go down stairs and chill out. You can go to get smoothies and ice cream. At night you have a view of lights out your window. It is AMAZING to see other hotels across the street like Edgewater. Its lights have a streak of water, blue going straight down from the top to the bottom. It is really comfy in the hotel beds the maids do a very good
job. That hotel is so AAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEESSSSSSSOOOOOOMMMME!!

Hi my name is FAITH and I saw some previews about the new movie: 2012, which is coming out November 13,2009. The movie is about the world ending on December 21, 2012. It will end by: earthquakes, fires, tsunamis,and floods. One family tries to get away by airplane and are totaly shocked because the husband told the family the world is going to end but the wife said nothing is going to happen because the President said not to panic because the world is not going to end. But, the world was ending so he was wrong.

Bobbie and I are trying to get free food day

What's up you guys? It's me, Jasmine, again. Bobbie and I are trying to get free food day. Free food day is when you buy it with sand dollars and you get to pick a friend to eat all day and whenever you want. Bobbie and I are trying to ask our family if they will buy McDonalds which would be so cool!!!! Bobbie and I have have 119 sand dollars and it costs 150 sand dollars. Can you figure out how much we need until we have 150 dollars?!?!?!

Can people be sad and happy at the same time? Of course they can!
She was sad, he was happy. Together they made mad and sappy. They called it The Mazy Game, but people just called it The Crazy and Lame. They walked and walked and talked and talked. They would tease people who ate peas. They said,"Since you wear a glove,that means you're in love. But 1 day, they felt sad, but happy. They cried when they laughed and laughed when the cried. No mater what,they sighed and did their math. And that was was how it was all day.

My Story,Ten Dogs Have Trouble by Samantha

One day at the park,ten puppies were running around the playground.Then a little boy came walking up to one of them and picked it up. All nine puppies came charging toward the little boy. The boy ran, but he wouldn't put down the scared little dog. Then all of a sudden,the boy put down the dog. The little dog wouldn't move and just stood there. "Um.....you guys...I don't think the boy was running from you," said the scared puppy. When the 10 little puppies turned around,they saw the most hairiest,scariest,and brownish animal they ever saw.A BEAR!"Run from that...that..thing!" yelled one of the puppies. Two hours passed. The puppies were panting and panting until they saw a stream. Then they went looking in dark alleys for food. Then at midnight,the ten puppies went to sleep. When morning came, it was the best luck they ever wanted, a home with lovable children. And there they were,in a house,taken by a family who loves them and takes care of them. And that was all they ever wanted, a HOME!!!!!!!

Have you ever been to San Diego beach? Well I have and my family even ate there. If you have been there it is so awesome. They have so many places to eat, like pizza and burger places. There are two museums there that you can go to. One's grey and the other is like a cruise ship. The museums are pretty expensive. It's like 15 dollars for one person. There are these people that bike around with chairs that you can sit on and they will take you were you need to go. If you go to the beach, nice!

My cat is two years old.His name is Cody. I always giggle when he looks at me because his chin is half white and half black. One time he was spying on a bird outside and then he ran to go get it and then BOOM! He ran into the screen door and he almost broke it. He has a lot of nicknames like Codycoo, Codykinz, Mooshoo,and more. When I look at him I see the best cat in the world. He is the one who makes me smile when I'm sad. He brightens my day with his smile every morning. I dont have two cats but I'm glad I have this one.

My favorite movie was made in the 19's!It is called,"Pete's Dragon." It is about an orphan named Pete, who runs away to a Maine fishing town called PassaMaQuaddy (Pass-a-ma-qa-dee) with his lovable dragon named Elliott.
Then a kind light-house keeper named Nora and her father, Laphy (Laugh-fee)help Pete.But a crooked salesman and his helper Lampy tries to capture Elliot but they fail!!!.:)Then at the end, Nora's true love comes to her and Pete is adoppted by Nora, Laphy and Pal-Nora's true love. But then sadly, Elliot had to leave to help another child.But everyone was still happy.I love that movie!!!!!!!

My cute dog Tinkerbell is the most smallest and cutest dog you SEE!!She is covered with black and nothing else!!She has black eyes that match her puff and fluffy fur.She gets in trouble a lot!Right now she climbed on the table.She hates dogs and if YOU WENT NEAR HER WITH 1,she would growl and howl and do anything she can,she would even chase it off again and again until it gives up,it looks like she's saying,"yeah!you better give up!"She is the best dog in my 1000 hearts of animals!!!!!I love her alot!

My Favorite Library

Do you know what your favorite library is?Well I know mine,and its the NORCO LIBRARY!!!The reasons are that the library has books and I like books a lot!They even have books on sale for just 10cents,25c,50c, and not that many times a book sales for $1.00!Most important to me,they have special events that are always new and diffrent.My favorite events are the horse events but,there's lots more than just horse events!In fact,there's a horse event this week on Thursday!On each horse event a horse comes and you can feed it,pet it,and get information about that type of breed.As many times I go to NORCO LIBRARY,the more I like it.If you want to go there,here's the address:

I have two very annoying brothers and one cute baby sister.My ANNOYING BROTHERS are the most weirdest an annoying things you can see!One of them is 5 and his name is Timothy,we call him Tim or Timmy for short.He loves Thomas the train.You should see his collection!My other brother is 6 in a half,his birthday is next month.His name is Daniel.If he calls me Sammy,I call him Danny.He is in love with STAR WARS!!! I HATE HIM! MY BIRTHDAY BY JAYLEN

On October 20, 2009, my mom woke me up and said, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY". I was so excited. After she said Happy Birthday she gave me a little bag with stuff in it. When I looked inside it was a MILEY Cyrus CD, lotion, a Happy Birthday card, and a Smarty necklace. My mom said to wear it to school. SO when I wore it to school all of my friends were talking to me about my necklace. During school it was fun. When it was time for lunch it was my favorite lunch of the day. It tasted good. After that it was time to go home. I said bye to all of my friends and went home. When we got home, my mom took us to our dad's apartment so he can come to Chilis for my birthday. When we got there the waiter took our order. I wanted a burger, mac and cheese, with Sprite. When we were waiting for our food and drink, the waiter gave us chips and salsa and chicken wings. It was the best. Finally we got our food. It tasted fantastic. This was my best birthday that I ever had.

The fat thing in my room,sitting on my bed eating chips is my brother Julio a.k.a(Jay).He cries all day,watches t.v ,and eats.His laughs and smiles bring joy to the world.His favorite movie is Cars and when he sees it he says,"Cars" in a funny accent.My baby brother wrestles,hits,and fights.That fat cute thing is MY brother,so watch out...he knows kerate.

My friend Jacquelyn is my buddy. Her favorite color is red. I like to go to her house and play games.We have known each other since kindergarten but she moved to another school. She is 9 years old. I miss her but I still go to her house. Her house is fun. She used to have a dog but her mom put it in the pound. She is my friend. I will never let her down.

My crazy dog Bella is so mean,so wild,so crazy,and such a bad girl! When I'm in my room watching a movie or TRYING TO GO TO SLEEP,SHE ATTACKS ME!!!!!!So the only way to make her stop,IS TO FIGHT WITH HER!!!!!But I'm lucky that I win. And sometimes my mom calls her out of my room. My dog Bella is still lucky that we all love her very much!

My cat is two years old.He is so crazy. One time he was in the living room and he was jumping and and running all over the place but he was playing with nothing.Then my friend was at the door and I answerd it.He said"I feel bad for this bird." And I looked down and I saw a bird laying on the ground and it was my cat who did it. He only drinks water from right under the sink so when he goes into the bathroom we know he wants water. My cat is crazy but I still love him.

Spy Cat is about two boys,Benjie and Alex,that have burglaries in their neighborhood. Their cat named Pete is trying to protect them. Then they got robbed and Benjie got kidnapped but he escaped and hid in a dryer. Meanwhile, Pete is trying to show the sheriff where Benjie put the license plate number and then he went crazy because he cant communicate with him.

My Birthday by Nate

April 18,
On my birthday I went to the park to have my birthday party.I had lots of fun.I had cake that had bananas. After I blew out the candles, they put my head into the cake. It tasted good. On my birthday I played softball. Most of my family played.We had to split up into different teams. What sucked was that my mom was on my team. But she still made it to first base. That was unbelievable that she made it to first base. My team still won. I wish it was my birthday again.

Jacob`s Favorite Video Game

My favorite video game is on my PS3. The game is Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. It is probably the most cool video game ever. You get to smash things and throw big debris. The cool part is you can destroy other Transformers. I like to be the Decepticons. They are the ones that are wanting to shut down the Autobots.Sometimes I like to be an Autobot. That is my favorite video game.

NEW MOON THE TWILIGHT SAGA is good so far. It's about vampires. One of them named Edward is in love with a human named Bella.It's her birthday today and when she goes to Edward's house to celebrate it, she might be in trouble.When she goes inside she sees his vampire family and says"hi" to everyone.Edward's family starts piling her with presents.So,when Bella gets a present,she opens it by putting her finger under the paper and jerks it under the tape.
"Shoot," she muttered when the paper sliced her finger.She gently took her finger out of the package to exmine the damage.A single drop of blood oozed from the tiny cut.Then Edward roared"NO!" He pushed Bella to the table and Jasper to the piano.So far,that's all I read.

Mrs.Bains Birthday is Today

Today is Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
My name is Jasmine and I'm one of Mrs. Bain's students.
Today is Mrs.Bain's birthday and I brought her cookies and some candy.
The class started to sing,"Happy Birthday to you". Mrs.Bain looks very pretty today and is wearing a white and black shirt and light blue. Bobbie brang Mrs.Bain a ballon and Jesus brought a homemade card and a bear, others brang cards. Mrs.Bain is the best teacher ever so you people out there are missing out. Boo hoo for you. That is my story about the greatest teacher on earth.

Hey 4th Grade Munchkins

Hey 4th grade, it is really a pleasure working with you all at Promenade. I think you're all cool and unique in your own way. I know I am not a teacher and just a dad helping out but, if you all need help with things just come back and ask and I will try my best to give you a hand. Once in a while give Mrs Bain a break, take it easy and take advantage in what you are being taught. It's free education take it and learn. I know you all will get this because Mrs. Bain somtimes reads these to ya, and thank you Mrs. Bain. Now all you little monkies get back to work!!!!

Drug Free is the Key...

 

We celebrated Red Ribbon Week this week.  Our class really showed their school spirit and their comittment to a drug-free future.

On Monday, students received their red bracelets that said, "Drug Free is the Key".

We "Socked it to Drugs" on Tuesday, donning our craziest socks!  PTO gave us all stickers to wear.

Wednesday was "Shade Out Drugs Day" and PTO supplied the whole school with silly glasses.

Thursday was "Red Head Day" and kids wore red hats, dyed their hair red, wore red wigs and wore some crazy hats!  PTO gave us each a red pencil that was personalized for Promenade.

We wrapped up the week with a "RED RALLY" where everyone wore as much red as possible.  PTO stepped up again, and provided us with some delicious suckers.


The school was decorated with giant keys and every kid at Promenade drew or wrote about what their future was going to be like without drugs getting in the way. 

Our class won the door decorating contest.  We made the coolest mural showing Mom holding the key to the house, Dad holding the key to the car, and US, holding the keys to our drug-free future.  We're going to do some amazing things! Just wait and see!

 

What a creative, artistic class!  The poster had the most amazing detail and was done entirely by the kids.  Eliseo was our car artist. 

I'm very proud of my class and can't wait for the Pizza Party we earned from our PTO!

My dog : Clifford

My dog Clifford is my best friend for almost 7 years.He got named from a T.V. show:"Clifford,The Big Red Dog" ,but actually is a small,brown CHIHUAHUA!!!I got him when I was 3 years old and we have been through a lot with eachother:I pulled his TAIL,I DRAGGED him with the leash up the stairs... He chased me all around the house because of that!! We don't do that anymore,but we always shared happy and sad moments together.He never bites but he KILLED a bird once...I think he did that because he want to play.He is very playful.If I have to share a secret with you :he is afraid of heights.But,don't tell,OK?I LOVE him a lot!CLIFFORD is the BEST dog!!!!!

Matthew and I

Did you have a funny moment like me and my little brother had?I always watched SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS because it is my favorite show.Well, Matthew started watching with me.After a while, Matthew started to sing the theme song in his own baby language:"Spunch,Spunch ..."He is so funny .He makes me and my Mami laugh every time.I love him a lot!

Special Classroom Visitor

Last week we read Boss of the Plains.  This is the story of John Stetson's trip out West and how he created the Boss of the Plains, a wide-brimmed cowboy hat.  As we read through the story, we got a picture of what life was like for the pioneers. 

One thing we learned is that they did not have the kind of entertainment that we have today.  They did not have television or radio and  definately did not carry Ipods!  The most popular form of entertainment out on the trail was music.  Someone usually played an instrument like a guitar, banjo, or harmonica, and everyone joined in and sang songs together.  The music and lyrics to the song were repetive and simple so that everyone could learn them easily and could sing along.  The songs were also written about the the life of the cowboy or pioneer.  One example we read about is the song "Home on the Range", which says, "Home, home on the range...where the deer and the antelope play.  Where seldom was heard a discouraging word, and the skies were not cloudy all day." 

To learn a little more about the music of the Old West, we had a visit from Jonny, who brought in his banjo and led the class in a sing-along.  What a great way to learn!

Static Flight 29 Down

I read an amazing book called "STATIC FLIGHT 29 DOWN." It was about a few kids who get stranded on an island while their lame pilot gets lost in the jungle. They try to survive on the beach. I give this book five stars.
